Getting Started with Hey Friday

Your first five minutes with Hey Friday — from accepting your invite to having a real conversation with your AI.

Hey Friday is a voice-first AI assistant that runs as a Progressive Web App — no download required. This guide walks you through everything from your first visit to having a productive AI conversation.

Step 1: Get an Invitation

Hey Friday is currently invite-only. To join the waitlist, visit heyfriday.co/waitlist and enter your name and email. When a spot opens, you will receive an email invitation with a sign-up link. The sign-up link is valid for 24 hours and can only be used once.

Step 2: Create Your Account

Click the link in your invitation email. You will be taken to the sign-in page where you can create your account in three ways:

  • Google: Sign in with your Google account. This is the fastest option — one tap and you are in.
  • Email + Password: Enter your email and choose a password. You will receive a confirmation email — click the link to verify your account.
  • Magic Link: Enter your email and we will send you a one-tap sign-in link. No password needed.

Step 3: Install on Your Phone (Optional but Recommended)

Hey Friday works best when installed as an app on your phone. See our PWA Installation Guide for step-by-step instructions for iPhone and Android.

Step 4: Allow Microphone Access

The first time you tap the microphone button, your browser will ask for microphone permission. Tap "Allow." Hey Friday uses your device's built-in speech recognition — your audio never leaves your device. If you accidentally denied permission, go to your browser settings and allow microphone access for heyfriday.co.

Step 5: Start a Conversation

Tap the microphone button and speak naturally. Hey Friday will transcribe what you say and respond both in text and voice. You can also type if you prefer — tap the text input area at the bottom of the screen.

Understanding Your Credits

Free accounts receive 100 chat credits per day, reset at midnight UTC. Each message you send uses one credit. You can see your remaining credits in the top-right corner of the app. For more details on credits, see Understanding Your Credits.
